About the event

This workshop is a short 2.5 hour class.

Let's get nostalgic and go retro... but as always we are all about smiles.

For those who have never experienced a film camera, and also for those of us born of that era.

Dust off the cobwebs (clean out the mirror of fungus), and let's get the old clunkers purring once again.

Film photography is mystical, magical and organic. With some practical knowledge and principles to follow, you will be shooting like a pro in no time.

What you will learn:

  • Camera Systems, mechanical and electronic.
  • Fundamentals of Exposure and what works best.
  • Metering in camera and using external light meters (hand-held light meters are supplied, or bring your own).
  • Colour and Black and White film photography... what is the difference?
  • Achieving close to 100% successful shot rates with your films.... LESS WASTE.

What to bring:

  • Your working film camera and lens, and batteries if needed.
  • Hand-held light meter (not essential).
  • A roll of film (colour or black and white). Films can be purchased from Palmerston Camera House

Colour films can be processed at any Camera House store.

Black and White films can be processed in-house at CIS, or at Palmerston Camera House.

Consumer scanning is available at Camera Hosue stores, and high resolution single frame scans are available from CIS.

Fine Art museum quality display prints from your films are available in-store at CIS.
